Which fish oil is the right one?

December 17, 2009 Uncategorized

I recently received a great question on fish oil:

How many grams I should have of fish oil? 2-4grams is recommended, but how do you look it up on the label? There's "fish oil" grams, there's "epa" grams, dha "grams" etc. Let me know!

Fish oil is the only supplement endorsed by the CrossFit community to truly improve performance. We did an extensive post on the benefits of fish oil and also how to test your fish oil for quality. When you go to the store to look at different brands, focus on the amount of EPA/DHA Omega3 fatty acids contained, since that provides the health benefits discussed.

I buy the Costco Kirkland regular brand, in which a 1000mg pill contains 300mg EPA/DHA Omega3's. They have a maximum strength version which I will try next. The highest concentration of Omega3 I could find is the Norwegian Gold product with a whopping 1025mg of Omega3, which ships free on eBay.

Which one do you use? Post to comments!

Eric, Flameout looks pretty intense. Have you tried it, and if so, did you have the “fish burp” issue?

Rachna, as far as I know the Whole foods capsules are good, however I haven’t tried it myself. I recommend testing it using the fish oil test that we posted about earlier. Just do a search for “fish oil test” on our blogs search box.
